A lot of people believe that selling is evil.

They believe that selling is nasty.

And this gives selling a bad name.

To me, these beliefs are wrong…. they are misconceptions.

Someone once said to me that “selling is telling.”

You see, all that selling really is, is that it is the transfer of enthusiasm for a product or service from one person to another.

And if you believe so strongly that a product or service will be of benefit to a friend, a family member, or even a total stranger, then you will highly recommend to that person that they acquire that product or service.

Depending upon your conviction to that belief, then you will do whatever you can to make sure that this person you tell goes ahead with your recommendation.

Have you ever told someone they need to see a new movie?

Or visit a new café or new restaurant, because your experience at that establishment was truly exceptional?

Or would you not tell anyone….

Would you then choose to only keep that restaurant as a “secret” to yourself?

As I said above, the transfer of enthusiasm [to another person] about a product or a service… is selling.

As an employee, or as a business owner…

As an employee, or as a business owner, it’s exactly the same.

If you believed in your heart of hearts that the clothes you retail will be lifechanging to a customer, then wouldn’t you want to do everything in your power to help your customers own these clothes?

Or that food in your restaurant?

If your linguine carbonara is the best linguini you’ve ever tasted, wouldn’t you want to persuade your customer to experience its flavours, and textures and aromas?

If you’re trying to help somebody acquire what’s best for them, for their appearance, for their confidence, for their health, why wouldn’t you want to “sell them” on the benefits of whatever it is you’re recommending?

Knowing that if they don’t take up your recommendation, then in the long term, they’re going to be worse off, and they will regret not following your advice?

Your goal in life is to help people get what they need.

And what they want.

And by telling people about great products you sell, and by providing great service, and exceptional service, to all your customers, what you’ll find is that enough people will act upon your recommendations and be grateful to you for those recommendations.

The’ll be glad that you offered your advice.

And they’ll be eternally grateful to you because they took your advice.

Because that advice from you was truly life changing for them.
